建築の真理は古代ローマにありました。古代ローマの建築を理想とする古典主義の時代が18世紀まで続きます。この間、真理に対する現在進行形の探求が続けられました。古代ローマの「真理」はつねに傍らにあり、自分の創作活動はそれに基ずく行為であって、古代ローマ人と同じ土俵で格闘しているという意識があったのです。これが古典主義時代の特徴ですね。この時代は、市民革命、産業革命を通して近代社会が成立するまで続きました。
Architecture looks for the ideal model around Roman Period. This is called as classic. In the 18th century an attitude to the way of refering styles had changed a lot. Before 18th century the ancient Roman Style was believed to have the truth and was the highest ideal model. On the background there was a belief that the truth must last forever and have the same benefit as that of Roman age. So huge time gap between Roman age and the current time had no problem. But after 18th century on the contrary the time gap began to be paid attention. Architecture seek each origin of each style.
