開口部は壁や床にあけられた孔です。興味深いことに、建築物を構成するさまざまな部分の中で日常的に動かして使うのは扉と窓ですが、どちらも開口部に取り付けられるものです。基本的に動かない建物の中で、唯一動く部分が開口部と関係しているわけですね。このことは、開口部が特別な部位であることを意味しています。
開口部を通して建物は外部にある光や空気、情報を取り込み、逆に内部の情報を出し不要物を捨てる。地面に定着して動けない建物が正常に機能するために第一に必要なのが開口部でしょう。開口部の存在が外部と内部の差異を生むと言ってもいいかも知れません。閉じた空間に孔を開けることが建築の発生という考え方もあります。外部と内部の差異がスペースにヒエラルキーを与え建築の存在感が生まれてくるのですね。

Opening on the wall means a window or door. Almost all building parts keep their position without move. But window and door are exception. It might be possible to point out the fact that opening is the particular part of the building by relationship with window which can be movable. If we think of role of window, we can notice that window provide light, fresh air and information from outside. And also from the outside we can try to know the state of affairs in the building through the window. So the window is a kind of gate linking in and out. In this sense a window has a lot of metaphysical meanings in general. Therefore thinking of opening must be the nearest way to hit a heart of architecture. Might be true.
