祭りは非日常の行為です。祭りは破壊への衝動を内に秘めています。建築に近づけて考えると、建設行為の逆が祭りではないでしょうか。祭りも建設行為も、多くの人々が協力しないとできない社会的行為である点は共通ですが、エネルギーの向かう方向が逆のようです。しかし、地域の人々が協力して成し遂げる所に注目すれば、祭りは建築の兄弟といっていいかも知れません。
昔、石垣を築くとき、人夫を活気付けるために太鼓と笛ではやし立て、現場を祭り状態にして難工事を切り抜けたという話があります。有名なのは、信長が京都の二条城や近江の安土城の石垣を築くときのエピソードでしょうか。祭りは人間のパワーを引き出すのに効果的なのです。

The deed in architecture and in festival are both social activity. They base on very old origins and have been necessary for daily life since the dawn of human beings. While a construction of building is carried out, on the reverse a carnival of people is acting. It's obvious that architecture goes toward creation and festival goes toward recreation. So they are brothers.
