部分と全体の関係は視点の取り方で変わるものです。人間サイズにおいては建物の壁や屋根が「部分」であり、それらが集まって１つの建築物ができている。これが「全体」です。都市サイズになると１つの建築物が「部分」であり、それらが集まってまちができています。つまり１つの建築物は、視点を人間サイズにすれば「全体」となり、都市サイズにすれば「部分」になるのですね。
ちょっと話が飛びますが、レム・コールハースのアイディアに「ビックネス」というのがありましたが「部分と全体」の関係に亀裂を入れるという意味で興味深いものです。建物がバカでかいという単純な理由が、建築と都市の秩序を問い直すきっかけを与えてくれるというものですね。スケールオーバーした巨大な壁が、単体の建物を飛び越して都市という「全体」と結びつく。つまり「部分」である壁の属性を「ビックネス」によって建築から都市に変えてしまったわけです。
part and whole
A building is organized by many elements like column, beam, window and so on. These elements are all parts which should be settled in relevant positions. All parts are required to work at appropriate place as the building elements. Then when we are inside the building, every element we are looking at is just part. It's true that we can never see the whole of construction where part and whole are defined to make relationship of each other. So the whole might always be found out in the metaphysical stage. A real building must appear as an organization of parts which can have something to do with the whole.
