壁の働きは流動を止めること、自由を限定することです。設計段階を考えてみると、壁の位置と高さを決めることで、アイディアの多様な可能性は限定されてゆきます。そして、部屋の配置が決まり、ヴォリュームが与えられ、機能が定義されるわけです。壁は人間の動き方を決定します。平面図に表現されているのは主に壁です。人間が動けるところが示されています。壁は限定することの象徴です。

Wall is one of the most important part of the building. Wall works as a stopper for wandering in possible layout of rooms and limits changable possibility. Wall is a symbol for limitaion. The position of room is fixed and the area of floor can be counted by means of wall. And also by wall the shape of room will appear. Layout of wall means an architectural plans. By giving height to walls which are drawn on the plan, layout of mass emerge in 3D stage and we can know the almost entire figure of that building as a volume. On the other hand planned walls make a background for space. Together with other factors like natural light, colors, finish of materials and so on, walls so to say, composition of walls often play a basic role for space creation.
