Soane Museum

In this photo we can see quite unique gallery where extraordinary number of antiques are exhibited. This gallery is in Sir John Soane's Museum in London. These antiques were collected by Soane himself. And this Muesum was his private house while his age. Maybe you can imagine Soane on a bust statue in the centre of the photo.

Here let the fact be thought that he collected and held so many antiques in his private house. Antiques, like a relief, sculpture and building ornament, usualy have a lot of seam in which passing time left various sorts of memory. Though we need a big consideration of relationship between time and memory, however it might be possible to think of the reason why Soane possessed huge antiques as a hint for illuminating the great architect's vision.

With inspiration from antiques he must see a perfect figure of ancient architecture. He must imagine an entire body through his enthusing collections in his private rooms. So when he was in proceeding some project, antiques might be refered as a source for memory of old great architectures. Because they were even tiny fragments, they must hold specific atmospheres as the real parts of the great building in the past.

This means he should look at the future in the past. A building which he was designing was going to run on the stream toward the future. On the other hand his collections tend to give memory in the past. Thinking about the contrary directions, one goes to the future and the other goes to the past, an Architect's favour might emerge in the sense of time. John Soane is an architect who fascinated by the sense of time. All his antique collections that told ancient stories were projected on the future of his current works.
