人間は知らないあいだに建物に支配されています。人間は建物に対して受動的です。出入りするところ、歩くところ、登るところなど、人間の行為はドアや通路、階段によって規定されています。もうちょっとドアが手前にあれば便利なのにとか、通路を広くとか、ふっと思うことはありますが、人は現状のスペースを受け入れてそれに自分をあわせようとします。一方、壁の色や床の素材など普段の生活で身近な部分は人間の無意識への働きかけがあるものです。
こんなことに注意すると、部屋の間取りや仕上げの素材を決めることはある意味、部屋を使う人間へ権力を行使するのに似ていることに気づきます。建物の中で暮らすことは、決められたところから出入りし、決められたルートを歩き、決められたところに座るのを指定され、それに従っている。そして、部屋の色合いから何らかの心理的影響を受けている。こんな見方が可能です。ポイントなのは、こうした状況は普段あまり意識にのぼらないことです。つまり知らない間に我々は暮らしている建物に支配されているということですね。これは、設計する側の立場のひとに肝に銘じておいてほしいことです。

You may be slave when you are user of building. Unconsciously you live your life under influence of layout of rooms or colour of wall or width of corridor. We usually tend to accomodate our physical parts of body to the size of immediate space. Changing the position of door or the width of corridor rarely go to be done in action. User should be really passive to the organization of building. So the act that planning layout of rooms, giving size to door frame and picking up colour of the wall might mean for users of the building to be forced and to yield their behaviors to designer's decision.
